How to use an Interdental Brush Effectively

It is important to clean in between your teeth every day, especially before using your toothbrush, to help reduce the risk of gum disease and decay. One should do this every day before bed. Imagine cleaning cars and motorbikes parked next to each other—so close that it's impossible to reach between them. Interdental brushes are designed to reach those impossible-to-clean gaps that a regular toothbrush can’t. Cleaning with an interdental brush helps you access the spaces between your teeth. For brush sizes (ranging from 0-4), you can rely on the range of STIM Interdental toothbrushes to help your cause.

Ways to Use an Interdental Brush

- The best way to use it is to start with the hard-to-reach places, such as the back of your teeth. You can curve the interdental brush to help with access.

- Stim an interproximal brush to reach tricky places inside your mouth. Try not to miss any spots, going in and out once or twice, making sure the brush goes all the way through the gap, just below where the teeth meet, and out the other side.

- Don’t force your way into the gaps; it should be a snug fit.
- Don’t be aggressive—this isn’t a competition, and you shouldn’t use it more than twice.
- Don’t be alarmed if you bleed during the first week of interdental brushing. However, consult your dental health professional if the bleeding persists.

- After cleaning between two teeth, wash the interdental brush with water to remove any debris, then continue cleaning.
- Dispose of the brush when it’s worn or bent, and after you’re done, gargle with water and brush your teeth with a regular toothbrush (which you probably do every night before bed).

- Interdental brushes are the best option when it comes to thorough cleaning.

- While traditional Indian methods like using “datum,” “charcoal,” or “powders” are effective for cleaning the front of the teeth, ask yourself: do they clean the spaces in between your teeth, which have likely existed since childhood?
